BOLD AS BRASS Big ideas…big melodies…big emotion…and a big tour bus. Bigfinn write songs that wrap themselves around your head – dramatic, colourful, all enveloping. A bit like an old Doctor Who scarf, but with a far more complex knitting pattern. Arrangements are ambitious – sometimes epic, sometimes intimate - but they never get in the way of a good tune. Which, in the Bigfinn world, is everything. Skittish melodies soar over the sort of song they just don’t write any more – singer Martin Travers delivers a full throttle performance which owes a lot to his heroes: Scott Walker, Van Morrison and Captain Beefheart. Recalcitrant troubadours, the lot of them. Bigfinn song delivers all of your 5 a day portions in one hearty package. It’s a wholesome stew which throws in a Hammond organ, pedal steel and strings, a trumpet sorbet and a side order of euphonium. If you’d bought any of their stuff on Amazon you’d probably be told that you’d like the Divine Comedy, The Guillemots and Prefab Sprout too. But you’re surely old enough to make up your own mind. Need a second opinion? Three CD releases and an impromptu tour of Russia and gigs in Paris ,and UK behind them, with plans to tour Italy and France this year, and Bigfinn are tearing themselves away from their beloved studio home,Moolahrouge, putting on something sparkly, and coming to a town near you. Freewheeling, spine tingling, life affirming and death defying. A night with Bigfinn is like a night in the big top. But without all that elephant shit.
